Historic monastery in unique position.

Description

This ancient monastery – built and lived in by Cistercian monks from 1620 to 1834 – is Deià´s most important historical landmark, as it was the monks who were the actual founders of the village. The monastery Ca l´Abat (The Abbots home) is situated in one of the most sought-after and exclusive neighborhoods, bearing the name of the monastery. The property has enormous potential, not only because of its great historical and architectural value, but also to its location, and to the fact that it is one of the few properties left that meet the requirements to make a hotel. The estate offers privileged, unencumbered views of the sea and the mountains (the Tramuntana World Heritage). The main house is composed of a large entrance hall, with its original stone floor and large staircase, a study, a kitchen, and an en-suite bedroom on the ground floor. On the first floor there are several bedrooms and a library, as well as 3 large living spaces with views onto the Mediterranean.  An old stone staircase leads down to the old olive press, and to the original chapel. The top floor holds yet more bedrooms, and a separate staircase leads to two additional large attics.  The property includes a generous tiled terrace, a rose garden with large stone archways and a pond.  An interesting architectural feature of the estate, comprising a lot of land and many spread out structures to support it, is the old defense tower. One of the property´s many privileges is the fact that it contains natural spring water.
